As I said below I find the science behind weapons in general pretty interesting, but I don't like talking about it because it might give people the wrong impression about me; the science is cool but the weapons themselves are definitely not cool, and so ridiculing the stupid ones is about as close as I'm willing to get.

Love to, but tracking them down is a bit of a pain and I don't want the science posts to get too much into military fetishism - I find the ingenuity (or stupidity) behind weapons systems to be fascinating and they're responsible for driving forward science in several fields, but past my default cynical overtones I loathe everything that they're intended to do. That being said I'll probably write at least one more like this soon.

Is that right though? According to Mr Fuch's Wikipedia page it is thought he started working for the USSR relatively early during the second world war (late 1942), so unless he envisaged the Cold War at that time it's difficult to see him as anything other than a communist who was driven by ideology.

Wikipedia may be wrong or misleading however, but I'm just interested if you have an alternative perspective.

I was joking, of course. Thought who knows - perhaps if USSR was too slow to catch up we'd have real WW3 as, I suspect, Klaus had feared.

Are useless impractical weapons your favorite subject? Previous science post was about kinetic bombardment.

Fascinating read indeed!

Could you write more like these? ie. British hiccups in development of weapons systems?
