After reading your article, I tried it out and was pretty impressed (I had already tried Star Conflict, but haven't played in a while). Got me to take out a joystick I had but I found myself to do considerably worse. There seems to be a distinct advantage to using the mouse since minor aiming adjustments are much easier.

I dunno; left stick for steering, triggers for firing weapons, shoulder buttons to adjust throttle? Not much else needs doing, save on occasion (landing gear, reloading, map?)

Sony are very pro-F2P games these days (see Dust 514, Planetside 2 etc.) and War Thunder is an extremely good-looking game that'll show off their new console pretty well. After seeing World of Tanks' player numbers they'd be mad to turn it down, although I have my doubts as to how well it'll work with a controller.

Anything about it that makes it suitable for a PS4 launch? Seems like they'd be pushing some kind of visual or mechanical hook to sell it, and this sounds niche even for a launch.

Technically it still is a beta, but it's on Steam now and is apparently a PS4 launch title so this is what the "finished" game will look like. Their plans to add in player-controlled tanks and ships still sound like lunacy, mind.

I really enjoyed the beta, but never got around to diving in after launch. Should probably fix that.

I do like how the very setting makes some of the more aggravating behaviours from World of Tanks (i.e. top-tier tanks spending an entire match camped in a bush on the edge of the map) impossible due to the inherent mobility.

I shall set it installing now!
