...And this is why I prefer honest systemic storyless games this days.

> I don’t go quite that far and merely consider it to be the best-written RPG

Well, we're waiting. What it the best RPG ever then?

Fan service you mention in screenshots may be one of the things that stop me from trying this thing. I think Deus Ex Mankind Divided was OK in general and didn't feel it lacks anything in its ending (especially compared to Tyranny which was all over the place at least gameplay-wise) and it handled its spiritual successor without overdoing it. The biggest cringe was probably difficulty setting I Never Asked For This.

I'll still probably play this eventually. Still sad the nostalgic and story-focused RPG design is so perverted. Even RPGs with best stories like Planescape or Fallout New Vegas do not give you real interactivity as a reason for the story greatness. Games like Spec Ops The Line or Brothers or even Undertale managed to make a good *game* story using medium in a right way. Those classic RPGs still try to emulate some mythical non-existant great games with great branching story and gameplay that places like RPG Codex imagine in their dreams. We're still getting bad book where page turning takes a little more effort (but not to the point to be actually hard) and maybe we'd have clones of Morrowind with weak story but huge worldbuilding effort if it wasn't so hard to make. Then Witcher 3 comes out and it turns out that all what nostalgic RPG fans want is a Telltale game plus open world with collectibles and some numbers to grind. Argh.
