Same; even with a healthy dose of auto-aim I rarely managed to feel like Chow Yun Fat in Hard Boiled. It's probably the one part of the game that actually genuinely doesn't work at any point.

I used a pad for SR3 too but that was much easier because it didn't require you to be accurate. I'd just fire bursts of automatic fire until whatever I was shooting at fell over, or I used a rocket to blow up something near groups of them.

Sleeping Dogs seems to want you to go for accuracy, what with slow motion bits and all. I really struggled to be accurate in the slow motion bits with a pad.

The combat really doesn't get good until about midway through, and while that's a definite design flaw you shouldn't let that tar your opinion of the entire game.

Also I used a pad the whole way through. The shooting controls are as atrocious as ever, but I played through Saints Row 3 using keyboard and mouse and it was *insanely* easy thanks to the huge head hitboxes on the baddies that the developers put in to compensate for pad controls. There doesn't seem to be a comfortable middle ground.

Haven't owned a console since my 360 bricked itself a couple of years back, sadly, but from what I've heard the Yakuza games are a rather Japanese (both in game style and game setting) take on the genre (or alternatively a continuation of Shenmue, which was it's own thing entirely). Sleeping Dogs sounds like it has far more in common with them than GTA does, but you can still see where SD came from. It's recognisably a Western GTA game, which looks like it'd probably be the main difference.

I didn't get on well with the demo mainly because of the combat. Seems like I should maybe give it another go?

The other issue I have with these games on PC is that I prefer to use a gamepad for fighting sections as I prefer the full 360 control that a stick gives you, rather than the up/down/left/right of WASD. But then in gun sections I need to use mouse and keyboard to get any sort of accuracy. I never actually checked it you could switch control methods during the game. That would be handy.
