Summons being locked off for such a long time is partly related to that dialogue congestion problem -- I went 30 or 40 hours before unlocking my first one simply because I couldn't get the right dialogue to trigger. Fortunately they're only really required on super-high heat runs, like Heat 20+, so you're not missing out on much mechanically. But it does mean Hades is a bit of an iceberg of a game, many of the key features of the game just aren't shown to the player until they've put a dozen hours into it. I've spent quite a lot of time trying to convince friends that no, there *is* more to the game than this, and that they should stick with it.

Yes, the vague boon descriptions and stat obfuscation is probably the worst thing Hades does, it seems to be a conscious choice to try and stop the player from thinking about the crunch too hard, but to me the crunch is the most interesting part of the game.

That's an exellent description of Hades.

I could never quite get into roguelites - I've cleared Dead Cells but Spelunky, Rogue Legacy, Streets of Rogue and others are all as inpenetrable to me as they look appealing. But Hades just works.

The only thing I'm worried about is if you start at 1.0 you probably get to credits and true ending after 10 victories. The game suggest you use different weapon each time (you get bonus resources if you use specific weapon chosen randomly) so you probably will see true ending on heat level 3 or something. You might not ever see extreme measures and realize what the game is doing. I think I had more than 30 victories before 1.0 and it takes 10 more to get to the true ending. I still have unfinished quests I can pursue but I have a friend who insists he basically saw all he wanted after scoring a few victories. I think he didn't even get summons yet.

On the other hand, it's probably much better than all those games requiring you to sign in for hundred hours before you are officially finished with a highly replayable game.
