I've admittedly cherrypicked the worst offender, some of them look okay, but given how good other bits of the game look the beards are pretty disappointing.

Yeah, that was a persistent problem that I was never able to get rid of despite a lot of fiddling with my graphics settings. Perhaps a driver issue? I know I'm not the only one to have character hair that looks like it's been sculpted rather than grown. It's a real shame, especially when the rest of the game looks so damn pretty.

Is everyone a smartass? What bores me in recent Bioware games is how it's similar to Joss Whedon's every movie cast with every character put through some sort of nerd-focused charisma enhancer. Everyone is ironic, self-aware, clever, playful. Everyone. I remember even "noble savage" Sten in DA1 was freaking stand-up comedian if you talk to him. Also everyone has a deep emotional scar, but it's acceptable. Forced stamped "uniqueness" is not acceptable.

Also you haven't ever said anything about combat system. I liked DA2 combat. It didn't care about strategic placement anymore (pseudo-realtime RPGs are terrible with it anyway. Even if you are 10 meters away you still get a hit cause this guy started his attack when you were near him!) and embraced silly unrealistic combat. Looked like a JRPG with all those status effects, sustainable tanks and combos. What about Inquisition?

Buying and playing Baldur's Gate is always acceptable. I kind of want to do a playthrough of the trilogy again at some point -- it's something I used to do every couple of years -- but I can't see myself having the time for it any time soon.

They do address Hawke. Sort of. Although possibly not in the way you're hoping. As for the Inquisitor, I've completely forgotten how they were mentioned in DA2 (I can just barely remember Cassandra was in it) so I couldn't tell you.

But yeah, DA2 had a really strong cast for such a terrible game. It's probably my favourite of any of their recent games save ME2 -- which is one of the reasons Inquisition is such a disappointment in that regard. Returning characters such as Cassandra and Varric are written well, and many of the non-party characters back at your base are also excellent; however, of the 7 new additions only Iron Bull comes across as a normal, well-adjusted person (which is odd considering he's a seven foot tall horned giant). Well okay, Blackwall also wasn't bad. Everyone else seemed to follow the lazy rule of having a personality composed of a single trait that was run into the ground. Maybe they would have been better if I'd actually included them in my party, but I didn't *want* to.
