I dunno, multiplayer is still going strong but I think the single-player FPS is actually something of a dying breed. Certainly the classic style where you proceed through a series of scripted levels is on the way out; open world is the name of the game now, and I don't think that's necessarily an improvement. I have no interest in playing Dying Light or participating in the Far Cry collectathon, for example; I'll buy an FPS with a distinctive, well-designed campaign (and CoD because I like rubbernecking) but open world shooters are by necessity shallow, and so end up being largely identical.

Wanted to actually argue about Bulletstorm being better FPS of the last half-decade but turns out it's already *older* than half-decade. Apart from Wolfenstein TNO the only other shooters that left any impact on my memory were Bioshock Infinite (which was worse shooter than previous Bioshocks due to absence of interesting weapons and abilities as well as linear design) and Spec Ops The Line but both are not remembered because of their FPS qualities.

Gosh, FPS is still dominant genre, isn't it? How come Wolfenstein was the only decent one? I still dislike many things in Wolfenstein (particularly underwater levels and cheap divergence strangely merged with different bonuses) but I should probably get to playing The Old Blood and this new Doom when it's on sale. Every other shooter reminds me I'd better go play something turn-based or strategic or open-world.
