Yeah, basically they should have chucked the campaign and used the development time to double or triple the amount of army customisation you can do. If they really wanted to do a campaign a Defender's Quest-style one wouldn't have hurt them at all, but they had to go the shit route.

It's part of the Might and Magic series; the Steam features list actually has the gall to advertise this as a plus instead of dooming it to be set in possibly the most generic fantasy universe in gaming.

It's sad, but I thought I would defend and actually buy this game on the assumption that it was an indie game (judging by the style and graphics.). Then I find it's published by Ubisoft...

Sorry Kenti, I agree with Hentzau. The Campaign was a prolonged and awful tutorial into trying out every Hero and their units. The Puzzle Quest metagame ironically would've been much better; especially if the 3 Basics units, Champion and Elite were all slottable along with your Special Attack and Artefact.

The multiplayer /is/ vastly superior though, providing you houserule away certain insanely broken Artefacts and the fact that a couple of the heroes have laughably overpowered Special Attacks.

I must disagree. Although I played straight through the campaign the first time (on the DS), tackling things pretty straightforwardly, I came back to a couple of replays after I had honed my skills in skirmish/multiplayer.

And it is possible to beat enemies a few levels higher than you with some specialised tactics. They are not always easily apparent and some battles can seem unwinnable (and some actually are), but there is an awful lot to play with.

The linearity of the campaign was hardly irritating either. I think the only thing upset me were a few of the non-standard or boss fights which just took a lot of tries to learn the sequence of boss moves and then lucking out on getting the right units to deal with them. It was a little too much trial-error (you could only do some of them first time through sheer luck).

I did tell you you could just skip the campaign and play out skirmishes or go multiplayer... but did you listen?
