See the thing which stops me going back and actually completing Shadow of Mordor is that the fights always seem to devolve into an endless churn of enemies, where more and more keep piling on, until either you die or have the good sense to just sprint away.

That aside you've really nailed some things here I just didn't like about Arkham Knight, but didn't realise why at the time. I absolutely hated the batmobile combat though. I may also be one of the few people who actually enjoyed Arkham Origins.

I believe rather than plain ripping off Arkham Asylum, Shadow of Mordor was in fact built in the same engine. Which makes it all the more incredible that they didn't pinch some version of the nemesis system for this. Imagine how amazing a dynamic rogue's gallery would be!

I picked up Arkham Knight for PC, so never played more than a couple of stuttery minutes before getting a refund. Given the series started off near-perfect and has been degenerating ever since, can't say I'm that sad.

Hear hear!

After thoroughly enjoying Arkham Asylum, I went into Arkham City and found it to be too much and too unfocused - I barely stayed. The prospect of driving into an even flabbier version is not at all appealing.

I've done a 100% completion of Shadow of Mordor, but I'd still be tempted to go back and redo it after a little while. I hope that if they do Shadow or Mordor 2 they won't allow it to just balloon like Arkham or Assassin's Creed... not sure that's too hopeful a prospect.
