It still unsettles me a bit when I teach a class of schoolchildren who have been taught from day one that Pluto Is Not A Planet. In theory they have a better grasp of that idea than I do.

(I saw your comment and was all like "What, I didn't accidentally call it a planet *again*, did I?" I keep doing that despite everything. Cultural inertia is hard to stop.)

"Some things just don’t fit in a neat little box, you know"

I know. I just like saying it - it makes me feel all sciencey. You try it - Pluto Is Not A Planet!

(I just shouted it at the girl who sits next to me at work. She is pretending not to hear me. I will make her hear.)

Nobody knows what the hell it is. Some things just don't fit in a neat little box, you know?

(Pluto's one of the few sciencey things I could legit be called an expert in, and the more I learned about it the more I realised it's unlike anything else out there, even the other dwarf planets and the neighbouring KBOs.)
