There was a story?

(I am good at shmups, and even I found getting to the end boss a bit of a chore. I mean sure, you stick your secret level/boss/ending in for the crazy people who want to play it on Judgement or whatever that difficulty setting was called, but you don't lock out a third of the game just because the player had the temerity to pick a difficulty that wasn't that.)

It's sort of a shame the designers decided to make you complete the game on harder difficulties to get through the story. I'd have happily blasted through it to just get through the campaign, but as it is, I gave up. Not that I'm any good at schmups anyway, but it was a nice idea for a game setting and it was a shame not to see it to its (narrative, at least) end.
