Oh, and don't just randomly insert characters from tie-in comics expecting us to know who they are because nobody has read them. This goes for any game, really: nobody gives a shit about tie-in fan-fiction characters, and trying to shoehorn them in will make about as much sense as... well, as the metaplot to Assassin's Creed does generally. But it still sucks. Especially if they're called Kai Leng.

I thought the Animus was a nice conceit for the UI and so on, but the ridiculous First Civilization stuff is just eugh. Cut that shit out, make coming out of the Animus completely optional, and refocus what metaplot there is on training Desmond to become a super-assassin for some reason that *doesn't* involve alien artifacts. Job done.

Yeah, and the thing is that it's just so needless - "Assassins vs Templars through history" would stand up perfectly well on its own.

At least they removed the bit from the original where it took about 15 steps to quit the game. Immersive!

Just wrapped up ACII last week. I like the series, but I can't think of another series so hurt by its story (the meta-plot, specifically). It's not even the worst game plot I've ever encountered, but it's so intrusive and preposterous, especially when compared to the historical stuff which is 80-90% reasonable and well-thought-out.

A belated bah humbug to Ubisoft's writers!

I did like Ezio SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER at the end of Revelations -- it's not often that a game comprehensively ties things off for a protagonist like that, but AC can do it because it doesn't rely on just one main character to carry the series.

I am glad you liked Revelations. I thoroughly enjoyed it, all the more so for coming to it almost a year after Brotherhood. It's altogether tighter, neater and more refined.

And Ezio stays true to his core character while continuing to be developed, which is a joy to see across several games.
